Show Notes

The Lindsay Clancy trial ended in a mistrial, but the conversation shouldn’t end there.

This episode asks a bigger question: How does intersectionality shape who receives empathy, advocacy, visibility, and the benefit of being viewed through the lens of mental illness?

As I revisited the Clancy case alongside Latarsha Sanders’s case, I kept thinking about the differences in public response. Both cases involve unimaginable tragedy and complicated questions surrounding mental health, yet the conversations around them have looked very different.

This isn’t about taking compassion away from anyone. It’s about expanding our compassion and examining the intersections of race, gender, mental health, motherhood, class, and the criminal legal system.

Because if we’re serious about mental health advocacy, our empathy has to reach beyond the stories and people we find easiest to understand.
