What happens when the standard for leadership becomes simply being good enough?

In this episode, I’m talking about mediocrity in leadership—not leaders who make mistakes, because we all do, but leadership that becomes comfortable with low expectations, poor communication, defensiveness, and a lack of growth.

I also get into a workplace dynamic we don’t talk about enough: what it feels like to be led by someone with less experience, training, or expertise than you—and what happens when that leader is threatened by the knowledge of the people they supervise.

A strong leader doesn’t need to be the most qualified person in every room. They need enough confidence to recognize talent, respect expertise, give credit, remain teachable, and say, “You know more about this than I do.”

Because when talented people learn that speaking up comes with a cost, eventually they stop speaking.

And when excellence has to shrink to make mediocrity comfortable, the entire organization pays the price.
